Around Manhattan

Sunday, July 28th

This day began with a nice breakfast at Elfriede's: small pancakes with syrup. Yum! James told me about a boat that would take you around whole Manhattan island. This sounded nice. He gave me ride right into Manhatten to the pier where the boat tour starts. By that (time it was around 10am) traffic was alright and not too heavy. The boat tour would have cost me around 40$ but I bought a "Citypass" for 100$, that gave me admission to: the Boat Circle line, the Guggenheim Museum or On Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Center), the Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Arts as well as two admissions to the Empire State Building (one at day time, one at night). If you use all of these tokens you can save up to 50% as one admission costs around 25$.

One long ride and the first day in NYC

Saturday, July 27th

This night I solely spend with being on the Greyhound bus, going from Toronto to New York City. The bus was scheduled for 10.30 pm and you have to be there an hour earlier. So I picked up my bags from the hostel at around 9pm and went all the way by foot to the bus terminal. Arriving at  9.30pm I had to wait for a bit, however we could'nt board until 11pm for whatever reason.

Niagara Falls and the Greyhound bus

Friday, July 26th

Niagara Falls Day! I got up at around the same time as Markus and Michael (I shared the room with them) as they were packing their stuff because they were going to get picked up at 8 am by a bus bringing them to the airport. I packed my bags as well, because I wanted to store them in the locker room for the day.

Toronto #2

Thursday, July 25th

We got up at around 8 am. Downstairs in the community room breakfast was waiting for us: pancakes and syrup (nope, no maple syrup, just plain corn syrup)!! We were given some free time until 1 pm. We made our way to St. Lawrance Market district, where we went into the aforesaid market hall (see the picture). Most of the vendors sold meat, but you could also find fruits, bread and fish. Exiting the hall facing south, we went on to Ontario Lake at the ferry harbour. Starting here, you could go on a ferry and get to Toronto Island Park, a big island just at the coast to Toronto. I'm thinking about going there when I come back to Toronto for the second time.

Catching up

Well, as you may have noticed, I tried to upload some pictures on Friday as my first memo from abroad. Unfortunately, the internet at the hostel "Canadiana Backpacker's Inn" was fairly slow and I tried to upload too many pictures...which led us, alas, to no pictures at all! However, I will upload them now.
